Zion Custis, a Running Back out of Lovejoy High School in Hampton, Georgia is ready to improve on the legacy he has already built.
Last season, Custis was at the top of 6A statistical categories in the State of Georgia with 1,487 yards and 12 touchdowns. He finished with 8.0 yards per carry and 123.9 yards per game earning him team MVP, 1st Team All-County, 1st Team All-Region, and Honorable Mention All-State Honors. This was the second straight year he ran for over 1,000 yards, establishing himself as one of the best and most consistent Running Backs in the state.
Custis helped lead Lovejoy to a playoff berth last season, with the Offensive Line being a major factor. Luckily for Custis, the entire line is returning and he thinks they are all ready to gel and go to war. “I Love my coaches and my teammates, especially the bigs up front. I will say that they are one of the best, if not the best Offensive Lines in the state of Georgia,” said Custis. He also plans on going deeper in the playoffs this year. “I think this year is going to be better than last season. Our coaching staff has done a great job this off-season working with us in the weight room, Spalding High camps, 7 on 7’s, and film study,” he said.
Heading into his Senior season, Custis is being watched closely around the State of Georgia, already earning himself two different Preseason All-State nominations. He also has eyes around the country as college offers are starting to come in. “My number one goal for this season is to continue to excel in the classroom. My next goal is to do everything I can on the Gridiron to help my team to win a state championship,” said Custis. He is also hopeful to rush for 2,000 yards and 20 plus touchdowns.
Going down as one of the greats at Lovejoy is something Custis has built over the past three years. He is now up to 3,976 yards and is closing in on the All-Time rushing record, led by his cousin Travis Custis. The legacy is built, he will just be adding to it.
