Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
I’m a believer in small goals equating to big goals, I set a goal to be relentless and unwavering in preparation, effort, and execution. I believe if I do that, the statistical goals and individual accolades will handle themselves. I unfortunately suffered an injury which held me out a good portion of the season and did not allow me to accomplish some of my other individual and statistical goals.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
I think they would say that I am a leader by nature. I lead with my actions and I am consistent and reliable. Physically, I think they would say I play with an edge and am good in both the run and pass game.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
I try to look at the big picture and recognize tendencies. I believe that if I can get a good idea of what the defense is going to do schematically pre-snap, it makes my job post-snap much easier. I look at how they play certain coverages, what coverages are most common in different D&D scenarios and where their favorite types of pressure come from. I will also spend some time on different individuals skill sets.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
I believe what separates me from the other pro prospects at my position is my versatility. I can play multiple positions on offense from H-back to Fullback to Tight End, I can run routes in the slot, in-line, or out of the backfield. I am good at blocking in space and fitting up linebackers, and can run down the field and tackle on special teams.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
My current plan is to finish the bowl game circuit and train for my pro day at Athletic Evolution in Massachusetts.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I believe I am a better route runner than most of the bigger Tight Ends and am probably a little more athletic as well which allows me to be a capable blocker in space. I am also very strong, I have squatted over 600 pounds, power cleaned 380 and expect to bench close to 30 reps of 225, so I can be physical in the run game. I also started 10 games as a freshman at linebacker so I am a very capable tackler on special teams. Off the field, I am consistent and reliable. I will always be where I’m supposed to be on time and ready to work.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
I’m a guy who’s going to buy into the culture and contribute in any and every way I possibly can. My versatility offensively and on special teams can save a team roster spots since I am able to fill many different roles.
