Nick Holshoe has signed to play Safety overseas for the Guelfi Firenze of the Federazione Italiana Di American Football (FIDAF).
Holshoe is excited to continue playing football and hopes this is just the beginning of his professional career. “I am looking forward to playing the sport I love in another country,” Holshoe said. More importantly, he wants to make a statement in his first season as a professional player. “I plan to bring a sense of urgency and relentless pursuit and energy. I absolutely love the game of football and my film shows it,” he said. He will need that passion as he be going up against the best football players Italy has to offer, plus the top American and other International players who have signed with the league’s teams.
The FIDAF is one of the premiere American Football leagues in Europe. The Firenze play in the league’s Division 1, which consists of 11 teams. The league has very limited spots for International athletes, as the Firenze will be using filling their second and final spot for foreign athletes on Holshoe. Given only two spots on every team, this is an impressive honor for Holshoe. “I am looking forward to sharing my story as an American and hearing others’ stories on how they started with football,” said Holshoe.
Holshoe played his college ball at Concordia University, a NAIA school in Ann Arbor, Michigan. As a 4 year starter for the Cardinals, he finished his career at the top of the record books. He finished 1st all-time in interceptions with 14, 1st in blocked passed with 70, 1st in punt return yards with 228, 1st in fumble recoveries with 5, and 2nd in tackles with 381.
