Name: Roman Buchanan
College: South Alabama
Position: Safety
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 216
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Roman: Versatility, versatility, versatility.
Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?
Roman: Since pro day has passed, the emphasis of my training at the moment is conditioning and work capacity, I want to go into camp with high endurance.
Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?
Roman: Comparing myself to other players is something I’m not a big fan of, but if I had to choose, I would say Mark Barron, Deone Bucanon, Reshad Jones, Kam Chancellor. I picked so many guys because I take bits and pieces from each of them.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
Roman: When I study film, I first focus on the formations, shifts, and motions of the offense in relation to how it will affect where and how I get aligned. Then I focus on smaller details such as splits of receivers and running backs, and lineman, some lineman give away rather it’s run or pass based off their stance. I also watch for playing style keys of the QB or how a receiver runs while breaking off a route vs pushing vertical.
Q: What separates you from other players at your position?
Roman: What separates me, is that I emphasize on preparations and being a pro. It is very rare for me to make mental errors. I am capable of soaking in a lot of info and applying it to put me in position to make plays.
Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Roman: I’m very passionate about the game of football, it’s more to me than being on tv or making money. I love the process of preparing a game plan and watching it being executed on game day.
Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
Roman: I’m extremely passionate about this game. I find joy in putting time into it and constantly improving. I’m not afraid at all to work hard. I’ve always been underestimated because of school size, even in high school which is why I prepare with a chip on my shoulder. I bring tremendous amounts of versatility to a defense and my willingness to prepare at an elite level will make me a contributor to the team
