Jonovan: Versatile, Passionate, Instinctive.
Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?
Jonovan: I’m training at the gym with the owner/trainer and am getting in 2 workouts a day. This off season I’m going to study more film at the safety position and perfect all techniques and the little things. Increasing my hand strength and catching ability is a goal of mine since interceptions/turnovers are important. I’m also going to prepare myself to be in the best shape possible. I’m going to put emphasis on endurance, to adapt better to the faster speed of the game.
Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?
Jonovan: I’d say I like to compare myself to TJ Ward, he’s a smaller guy that roams around and wreaks havoc from all angles on the field.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
Jonovan: When studying film, I like to point out other players’ progressions to gain an edge on what play the opponent may potentially run. I like to look for the difference of stances from linemen, receivers and running backs because it may be a huge key in tipping off the play. I also watch the quarterbacks because some, at times have a routine before the snap that is different from when he drops back to pass or when he hands off.
Q: What separates you from other players at your position?
Jonovan: I’m a versatile player who can come and stuff the run and run in coverage. I’m not afraid to cover the slot or play inside the box. I like to dissect my opponents and really break down their tendencies. I rely on my instincts a lot while playing after have studied the film on my opponent because the game comes easier if you’re a step ahead.
Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Jonovan: I’m a quiet and have a workaholic mindset. My dad taught me to have a “don’t quit, finish what you start” attitude. He also taught me to learn as much as I can possible. My parents also taught me how to conduct myself professionally at all times.
Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
Jonovan: I’m a coachable guy and always willing to learn and pay attention to detail. I have a ton of knowledge about the game. Everyday I’m going to compete no matter what to make not only myself better but my teammates as well.
