Name: Imarjaye Albury
College: Florida International
Position: Defensive Tackle
Height: 6’0″
Weight: 300
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Imarjaye: Violent, Sudden, and Precise. I use violent hands, I’m sudden off the ball, and as an interior linemen, it is vital to have precise hand placement.
Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?
Imarjaye: I was blessed with the opportunity to train with the best in the business, better known as EXOS. My time in Los Angeles was amazing, and the staff at EXOS really brought the best out of me both training and nutrition. I got the opportunity to be around great players, and great NFL players as well such as Brandon Mebane and Julian Edelman; so seeing how the pros train was also a great learning experience. Overall, I learned a lot and got better at EXOS.
Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?
Imarjaye: (Current)Brandon Mebane (former) Casey Hampton. Although I’m similar to both of these guys size wise, it’s the way they played the game that I try to mimic. I feel like I’m every bit of those two guys. They’re hard nosed, hard working, violent, solid nose tackles. Casey Hampton played for my favorite NFL team, and I always wanted to be like him because he had so much fun playing the toughest position on defense. Then came Mebane with even more enthusiasm. Mebane’s a technician just like me, with his hands, his eyes, and his feet. Both guys are also Super Bowl winning guys and played on legendary defenses, and have played many years in the NFL which I know I have the potential to do.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
Imarjaye: When I study film, it’s a process for me. First, I like to watch a few reps on an O Line as a whole and watch their flow. I would know what kind of mindset they have upfront, and if they’re in tuned with each other. After that, I watch the interior guys one by one. I focus on how they come off the ball. Their footwork, do they expose their chest? How late are they with their hands? I look at their pad level, and I love to look for waist benders. Me being a shorter and strong inside guy, I look for whatever helps with my advantage which is strength, quickness and pad level.
Q: What separates you from other players at your position?
Imarjaye: Firstly, I love the position, and I embrace it. I played nose tackle my entire life. I don’t shy away from the challenges of the position, i love taking on double teams because if i am demanding the double then that tells me I’m doing my job and helping my defense. I know how to use my strength and my leverage to my advantage.
Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Imarjaye: Off the field, I have great people skills, I’m intelligent and I have a big heart. Meaning I would enjoy servicing the community and giving back. I would also be a great teammate, and potential leader. On the field, I bring the strength and the mindset it takes to play my position. I have never missed a game due to injury, so I am dependable, and unselfish.
Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
Imarjaye: I LOVE FOOTBALL! Football has been good to me, and I enjoy every bit of this game. My best football is ahead of me and I am eager to learn and help any organization that gives me an opportunity win games, and championships!
