Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
For my final collegiate season, I set personal goals to become an All-American and to help lead my team to the playoffs. I came up short but learned valuable lessons through the process that I will take with me to the next level. I also set a goal to break some school records. I accomplished this goal and ended my college career on seven all-time career leader boards.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My coaches and teammates would say that I am a respected and dependable player with a high football IQ. I’ve been described as the “QB of our defense”, one of the “hardest hitting players on the field”, a “ball hawk” and have been told that a lot of times the MIAA coaches made their offensive game plans around me. I am a player that is going to show up day in and day out to put the work in. I am not going to give any coaches or organizations trouble on or off the field and was a positive role model for our team, school, and community. I am a leader by example first and voice second. I firmly believe that if you want to be in a leadership position your teammates need to see the type of work and effort you put in. I tend to use voice in the right moments when I feel that the message isn’t getting across. I am a coachable team player who is very passionate, yet controlled, who just loves the game of football.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
When studying film I watch my mistakes from the week before. Teams are going to try and test those mistakes again to see if it happens twice. Then, I watch the whole flow of 1-3 of their games to see what type of pace they want to play the game and how they play in certain situations. After, I’ll watch the key guys that they have, how they align and if that makes a difference where the ball is going, their favorite moves, their go to 3rd down guys/plays. Finally, I’ll watch their red zone offense and study some of their favorite plays. I try to set myself up to be pro-active, not reactive on the field.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
What separates me from the other pro prospects at the Safety position is my IQ of the game. I can dissect plays and drives instantly which is important to make those in game adjustments. It allows for an easy communication between coach and player to either figure out what went wrong on a play or what we see that is working on the field.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
I have been training with the same personal trainer out of Kansas City Area for the last 3 years. We work on strength and endurance with a special focus on speed, agility, explosiveness, and footwork.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
The kind of strengths and abilities I will bring to my team on the field is reliability, coachable, physical, high football IQ, strong tackler, great special teams’ player, substantial ball skills, respect for teammates and coaches, controlled passion for the game. The kind of strengths I will bring to my team off the field is integrity, honesty, loyalty and a strong sense of community.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
To the NFL or any other pro leagues, all I am asking is for a chance to be seen so I can prove my skills, commitment and passion for the game of football. I’m not that player who received tons of big accolades or awards but because I understand it isn’t about individual glory, this never stopped or detoured me from the path that I am meant to be on. I guarantee that I will be one of the hardest working players underneath whoever’s organization that gives me a chance and will stop at nothing to prove myself worthy of playing at the next level.
