Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?
To dominate every game I played in for my last season of college football, not only as an individual, but mainly as a team. I wanted to make sure that every defense I went against was going to have they worst game of the season. The stats took care of itself, because I knew as soon as I stepped on the field, it’s go time and I wouldn’t allow myself to take a play off!
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Efficient, reliable, consistent.
Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?
Training has always been an imperative thing to me, especially in the offseason. My draft training has already started. I’m working with Evosportstraining in Southern California. Gary Cablayan is the best speed trainer out there. He trained John Ross last year for his NFL combine, and also has been training DeSean Jackson for the past 10+ years, those are just some of the few names. This is only an 8 week process leading up to combines and pro days, but there is a window between the end of pro days and draft day. That’s not relax time, that’s an opportunity to grind 100x harder and that’s what will be done on my end.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
When I study film, I try to break it down from a Quarterback perspective. Not just knowing about the back end of the defense, but everyone. I look for certain matchups throughout the whole game. I watch how Corners, Safeties, and Backers emphasize their technique and if it’s a consistent thing. I’m looking to see if any Defensive Back takes a play off so I could take advantage of that. I also prefer to watch man coverage, and press coverage, looking to see if a Corner is aggressive at the line or consistent with soft press. The main quarter I like to watch is the fourth quarter because I want to see how Defensive Backs and Backers are playing when they are tired and if they let their basic learning tools go out the window. My motor won’t stop. So, what I’m doing in the first quarter will be done in the fourth.
Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?
What separates me from others that play the same position is my will to win, and make the most of every opportunity. I constantly repeat my high I.Q. for the game because it’s one of my best traits, I know my position and the offensive side of the ball down to a T. I’ve played in multiple systems throughout my college career, I’ll be prepared for any playbook and adjustments presented to me. I go into each day trying to make every rep count. I’m going to separate myself from others by being consistent and making plays on the field, and doing my due diligence off the field.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
The strength and abilities I will bring to a team are straight forward. Anywhere on special teams that the team needs to play, I will do. I’m a leader by nature, and I’m all about doing the right thing, also emphasizing the right energy and culture in a locker room. I’m a high IQ football player, so once I get my part down, I’m always willing to help my teammates. I’m a playmaker as cliche as it sounds. I will go the extra mile to make the right block, right catch, doing the right assignment. There’s always a way, and I will find it, no matter who is lining up across from me. Off the field is just as important. I always carry myself with class, character, and professionalism. I treat the janitor the same way I treat the CEO. I don’t burn bridges and I’m a true genuine person that loves to play football. I’m active in the community back from where I’m from, Long Beach, California with participating in youth camps, coaching teams, and helping out with homeless events. I will have the same mindset with being apart of the community with wherever a team blesses me with an opportunity. I want to use this platform to help others.
Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
I just want scouts to know that if you provide an opportunity for me, you will not regret it. I’m a passionate ball player and I love to compete at the highest level. If you do your research on me, you will see that I have the underdog story, and my fire is lit, nothing but fuel! A lot of sleepless nights grinding to make this dream come true! I will be the steal of the draft! Thank you!
