Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
For my personal goal, at the beginning of our season I wanted to finish the season with a hundred tackles, but ended up with 80 tackles, which I still consider a successful season regardless. My biggest goal was to leave a lasting positive impact on the team and be a significant part of the rebuild of the Bethany football program.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
They would say that I am a humble, hard working and coachable player that leaves it on the line every time I step on the field.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
I like to focus on tendencies, techniques and weaknesses. When game planning, I understand that this is a game of numbers so predictability is a huge factor, and it’s imperative to know your opponent. When studying techniques and weaknesses of linemen for example, I focus on their hands, feet quickness, bad tendencies and favorite blocking techniques so I can strategize a counter for whatever move they may try, and discuss that with my coaches.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
I think my ability to adapt to new situations would be my separation point. I’ve played at every level in the defense (defensive line, linebacker, and Safety) and that gives me an edge because I already know what everyone’s job is, and if one were to bust, I’m able to correct and make them right from my stand point. Having experience at every level helps because I am aware of nearly everything that happens on the field while at Middle Linebacker. Because of this experience, my football IQ has grown exponentially, and I’m much wiser as well.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
This off season, I will be flying to Iowa for an amazing opportunity to get better with Iowa State strength and conditioning coach Ben Durbin, and will spend a while there, preparing for every opportunity that may come my way.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I bring a strength that not many can say they have, which is experience. As I previously stated, I’ve been at all levels of the field for a significant amount of time, so my ability to adapt and my situational awareness is more heightened than some players, as well as it has enhanced my playmaking abilities. I was able to take valuable lessons I learned as a defensive end, outside linebacker and strong safety while at Fort Hays State, and was able to infuse it into my game and playing style as I finished out my senior year at Bethany College.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?
Although I’ve finished my collegiate career, I feel like I’ve caught my second wind. I’m hungrier than ever, preparing for every and any opportunity that comes before me. I’m older, wiser, faster and stronger with experience on every level of the defensive side of the ball that many don’t have. I’m just looking for an opportunity to give them my all and will be preparing until then.
