Name: Donovan Manning
School: Gardner Webb University
Position: Defensive End
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 255
Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?
I concentrated on being more consistent and doing my job every time. Not just being only a big play guy, but a consistent play guy, along with making big plays. My goal was to make myself stronger in order to control blocks. I became more versatile and was able to play all three positions along the defensive line in our 3-4 defense.
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Smart, Fast, Physical
Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?
I will train daily with the focus of having my conditioning level at its highest peak while still carrying my weight. Each workout will be structured and triggered towards the game of football and not just getting strong.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
When studying film, I look at backfield sets along with tendencies on different downs and personnel grouping and sets.
Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?
I have a relentless motor. I do not play out of control. I play with my mind always a step ahead making me more dangerous before the play. Most defensive lineman do not understand Wide Receiver formations and back field sets, but I do.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I bring to the table positivity and leadership. I understand that everything you do counts. I hold my teammates accountable for everything and I own up to my own mistakes. I am very strong and physical. I also have the ability to run with some Linebackers.
Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
I will always be better than I was the day before. We often are obsessed with beating the man in front of us when all we are competing against is ourselves. I do not put limits on myself and I can adapt to any situation.
