Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
I am a goal-oriented person, so I tend to set goals for myself in many aspects of my life. This season, I set two personal goals. The first was to not ever give up a sack. The second was to make the all-conference team. Through hard work, dedication, and commitment, I was able to make an All CAA team. Unfortunately, I gave up two sacks this season, but it taught me that I should never give up and work harder. What seems like failure is really an opportunity in disguise to strive to become the best version of yourself. Further, my overall goal for my final collegiate season was to ensure that the OL was a dominant unit. In some ways we accomplish that goal as we were dominant at running the ball this season. with that, we finished fifth in our conference rushing which was much better than the season before.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
I think my coaches and teammates would say I’m the type of player that never quits. I’ve learned to be confident and so I really hope that exudes when I play on the field. I’ve been told that I’m a hard worker and an overall good person. I spend countless hours studying film, fitting in extra workout sessions, and just giving it my all during every single practice. The fighter in me hates to quit and I think that fight allows me to show my teammates that anything is possible with hard work and grit.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
When playing tackle, I study the get off. The first three steps a DE makes tells me everything I need to know. I then study their body positions; whether they give shoulder, chest, or inside move read. As a guard, I try to figure out if the DL is more of a reader or a penetrator. Overall, knowing my opponent’s strengths and weaknesses improves my game.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
The thing that separates me from other pro prospects in my position is versatility and grit. In my collegiate career, I was able to start three different positions within the OL. I’ve even had the opportunity to play center. I’m able to play five different positions within the OL. Honestly, if I know something is even possibly within my reach, I will work, and I will work until I accomplish my goal.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
My off-season plan is multifaceted. I am really taking this opportunity to prepare for my professional career seriously. I understand that I am in a unique position and I am beyond blessed to even have an opportunity to be considered for the NFL. I plan to attend the College Gridiron Showcase. After that, I will go to Texas and prepare with a trainer that I feel really understands me and that I believe will take me to the next level. While training, I will work as hard as I possibly can so that I am the best version of myself for my Pro Day.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I think some of my strengths and abilities on and off the field are my camaraderie and adaptability. I think these two traits are very important and I also think they’re highly underestimated. Coming from college football and transitioning into the pro world is not an easy thing. You have to be adaptable, quick on your feet and able to adjust to a new environment. Also, you are a representation of your team and the league. I’ve been groomed from a young age to know how to carry myself and know how to handle many situations with very little prep. Further, camaraderie within a team is the glue that makes the team, work. My personality matches with pretty much all personalities. Camaraderie and adaptability will help on the field, as I’ll be able to work with my teammates, grasp plays and adjust when necessary. Also, these two traits are important off the field as I am a representation of my team and the league.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?
In life it only takes one opportunity. One moment can really change anyone’s life. I’ve been taught in life, when presented with an opportunity, you take it and run with it as far as you can. I have trained and worked my entire life to get to this point. When the opportunity comes, I plan on ramming the door down and making the most that moment. Football is more than a game; it is a huge part of my life and my passion. If given the opportunity to make football a career, I know that I would be a major asset to any team. I am ready to take my talent, hard work, perseverance, and grit and make my dreams a reality.
