Name: Brandon Varner
School: Grambling State
Position: DE/ATH
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 255
Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?
My main goal this year wasn’t chasing stats, but it was trying to dominate every play and run to the ball every play because good things happen to those who give effort.
Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?
I honestly believe they would say I’m a hard worker, he’s always at the facility, honestly I’m tired of seeing BRANDON Varner, and that guy is fully invested in playing football.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
The first thing I look to see is how heavy or light the tackle or guard is on their hand, what is their stance is like on pass or run. What type of pass setter are they? Do they just like to over set or are they patient in their kick step, do they just want to run by you. I also have to pay attention to the back location on what aiming point to attack. It sounds funny for a dlinemen to say they pay attention to the receivers, but we do because if there is maybe 3 receivers to a side along with a running back, we could alert sprint out in different forms or combinations in that scenario.
Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?
I am honestly confident in playing every position on the line and even OLB. I come to practice every day with a swagger and I don’t take days off. I believe if you want to take days off, this isn’t the sport for you.
Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?
I will train like this is all I got somewhere in Atlanta, but one thing I will incorporate in my workouts is boxing because it helps with the hands and even footwork.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
It doesn’t matter on and off the field, I will be a professional. On the field, I will be as violent as possible and off the field, I will be respectful as possible. My greatest strength is to be consistent and that entails trying to outwork what I did yesterday.
Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
I’m a guy who will do anything to make the roster, I will play offensive line, fullback, it doesn’t matter, but just know this, I will come with that energy and effort everyday. You will never have to question that, I guarantee. Too much talking for one day, let me show you.
