Xavier Smith: 2023 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Xavier Smith
School: Florida A&M University
Position: WR
Height: 5-10
Weight: 170

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

The goals that I accomplished this year were being named 1st Team All Conference, receiving numerous All American honors including FCS AP All American, and eclipsing 1,000 yds and 11 TDS for the second time in my career.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

My coaches and teammates would say that I am a hardworking individual who comes to work each and everyday I receive the chance. I’m determined, dedicated and committed to whatever the task is at hand and I won’t stop until everything is achieved. They would also say I am a guy who likes to have fun and enjoy every moment while knowing the magnitude of every opportunity being presented.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

I’m focused on my techniques when running routes, how sudden do I get in and out of my breaks, and the effort I’m giving from play to play. I also study the weak points and tendencies of defenders in order to attack them whenever we’re competing against each other. I look for the eyes and movements a DB makes when he’s dropping into zone coverage, or attempting to press at the line. I’m looking to see how physical and fast the DB’s are in coverage so I can create my plan against my opponent.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

There is nothing on the field that I am not able to do. I’m extremely versatile on the field, I am able to be moved around to multiple positions on offense and I am just as affective on any special team as well.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

I will be combine training in Florida to build my speed, strength, explosiveness and lateral quickness in order to excel for pro day. During this time, I will also be receiving training at the Wide receiver position to improve my skills and help me become a better Receiver all around. With my nutritional plan I’ll be able to put on a few more pounds of muscle in order to be fully prepared for pro day.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

I am a natural born leader and I have a passion for the game like no other. I’ve always known how to rally the guys around me and make my teammates want to play their hearts out for me. I will also bring my speed, and quickness to the team that presents me with an opportunity. I am able to run with the best of them and I can guarantee I will run past any DB.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

I’m coming, all I need is an opportunity and I promise it’ll be the best decision you ever make!
