What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
A few goals that I set for myself was to get 10 career interceptions and 200 career total tackles, I finished with 11 career interceptions and 192 total tackles. I also set a goal to get All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American. I received All-Conference and All-Region. Did not reach All American. Lastly, I got a game clenching 75 yard pick 6 which was pretty exciting.
Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?
I think that I increased my overall knowledge of the game of football. I was able to increase my athleticism with an extra year of training and I was also able to gain more attention from scouts and finish on a high note. I played more hungry and produced more quality film to increase my chances of going pro. I also showed improvement in things that I struggled with as an underclassmen which is important coming from a smaller school because I have to show that I can develop.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My coaches and teammates would say that I am resilient and hardworking. They also would speak on my character and say that I am more of a lead by example type of player; not as loud. They would say that I could connect with any player on the team whether that’s the kickers, offensive players; just anybody.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
When I am studying film to improve, I try to focus on having efficient and fluid movements while having sound technique. While studying opponents, I study their tendencies for the offensive line, I study what their pass set looks like versus when they are run blocking. I study the quarterback’s body language to see if he has any giveaways. Lastly, I study the receivers’ routes, when they’re getting the ball versus when they’re not, and how physical they are.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
First, the university that I went to/the coaching I received in college. If there is one thing that John Carroll is known for, it’s having good coaching and leadership. Arguably one of the greatest coaches in NFL history comes from John Carroll, Don Shula. Brandon Staley also came from John Carroll who is now a head coach for the chargers along with many other GM’s, coordinators, position coaches and scouts. Being around great football minds provides a better perspective of the game. Another thing that separates me from other players is that I was able to play multiple positions in college; also I have the frame to play linebacker and/or safety. Lastly I have connections with players who are currently in the NFL to show me how to be a professional and show me the ropes.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
This offseason, I am training with one of the greatest trainers in Ohio who has trained multiple superstars transitioning from college to pro, Tim Robertson. He has worked with Marshon Lattimore, Julian Edelman, London Fletcher, Ted Ginn Jr and many other greats.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
My strengths that I would be able to bring to a team on the field is my ability to play multiple positions, my mindset knowing I’ll have to do anything that a team needs in order to prove myself. As far as off the field, I am willing to put in the time to make the necessary gains mentally through film study and in the weight room to be able to produce on the field.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
If I had a final pitch, it would be to just let coaches know that I am ready to do whatever it takes to have the opportunity to continue playing. It’s easy to say that but the credible people in my life can attest to that and I am ready to do whatever it takes.
