Taoheed Karim: 2023 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Taoheed Karim
School: East Central University
Position: DB
Height: 6-0
Weight: 190

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

My goal for my last collegiate season was to perfect my craft as a DB throughout the season, maintain a healthy status, and put up a great performance during the season to earn honors. I would definitely say I accomplished 2 out of 3 being that I stayed healthy and my skill has evolved tremendously!

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

I think they would say that I’m a team-first and lead-by-action player that approaches everything professionally and is determined to accomplish any task-at-hand if it results in my team’s success.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

When I study my own film, I watch my technique. Technique is the foundation to my game, so I make sure that my technique as a DB is sharp in order to be in the right position. When studying my opponents, I tend to look for consistent tendencies like how often a team runs certain plays and on what down and distance or if a WR has a certain alignment or particular body language. That allows me to progress through the possibilities.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

My football I.Q. and my versatility! I’m a student of the game. I’m always looking for opportunities to learn more and utilize my knowledge. In addition, I can play anywhere in the secondary and anywhere on special teams and make plays! There is not a job anywhere in the secondary that is too hard for me. Wherever you need me, I’m there!

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

I plan to train and study with a professional development team that will assist in perfecting my craft and making sure that I’m healthy and ready for pro day.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Some of the strengths and abilities that I bring to a team is leadership, communication, and open-mindedness. I’m a player who leads by example and my energy tends to be contagious. I’m also a guy who is willing to sit back and learn as well as take notes. This allows me to be aware of in-game situations and communicate with my teammates on and off the field. Best of both worlds.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

As I developed to who I am today, I have been overlooked many of times. However, I’m a player that would go above and beyond for a team. I’m a physical DB that refuses to be outworked because I’m too familiar with being overlooked. In addition, those who believe in what I’m capable of doing and took the chance, have found much success in doing so. This goes for myself as well! I know that you see other Defensive backs in higher positions and division, but I swear that I’m just as good as them if not better. Take that chance on me!
