Shea Campbell: 2022 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Shea Campbell
School: University of West Florida
Position: ILB

Height: 6’0”
Weight: 240

What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

The goals I set for myself for my final year were to help my team win our conference for the first time ever and help compete for a national championship. I also wanted to be all-conference, all-region, and all-American. I was 1st team all region and all conference and am still waiting for the all-American list to be released.

Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?

Being given another year to play has greatly improved my chances of going pro. I took advantage of playing another year by perfecting my craft and being able to display that week in and week out consistently.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

My coaches and teammates would describe me as passionate, determined, disciplined, relentless, and consistent. The type of player who will play as hard as he can from snap 1 to snap 80 and you’ll get the same thing every play.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

When studying film, I pay a lot of attention to the personnel I play against. I look at hand placement, foot placement, I pay attention to alignment of running backs and offensive lineman. I study the way certain players run the ball and if they run shoulders over toes or if they are more shifty. That helps me prepare on how to attack that player. I look at the way offensive lineman block, if they are lunging or if they reach when trying to block. Depending on the personnel and type of player I notice helps me prepare my skill set for that given week.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

What separates me and other pro prospects is my ability to mentally understand scheme and being able to retain that information. Being able to know where each player aligns and their responsibility on each play call puts me at an advantage. I feel that I grasp new content easily and can learn many schemes quickly. Another factor is my availability. I’m not someone who has battled injury and I feel that puts me at less of a risk.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

My off-season plan to drop a couple pounds and be in the 230-235 range. I feel this will help me with my speed and allow me to play at a faster pace. Any bowl opportunity will also help me showcase my intelligence and athleticism more.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Strengths that I bring to a team include me being all-in and dedicated to that program. I’m a natural leader and motivator and can help elevate a program in anyway that I’m needed. Off the field I am someone who helps the community and stays out of trouble. I’m here for the team and helping the team in whichever way.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

My final pitch is that I’m a guy willing to play and understand my role. All I need is one opportunity to show my skills and my capability of competing at the highest level.
