Shaquan Oliver: 2023 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Shaquan Oliver
School: Kentucky State University
Position: RB/FB
Height: 5-11
Weight: 240

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

I would say as a team, we got to set records in rushing yards per game. Personally I was able to get double digit touchdowns. As well as scoring a touchdown every 10 touches. Those are just a few that was big for me this past season. I was able to gain some recognition from some all star games because of the skillset I showed throughout the season.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

The first thing I feel my coaches and teammates would say about me is that I’m very unselfish. As well as a hard worker. My main objective was to make sure my coaches and teammates knew I would do anything to win. They all would say I put the team first before my own success.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

When I am studying film, I first like to go over the corrections from the game before. Make sure everything is sharp going into the next game. Even if we win or lose I still like to look at what I could of done better on each play. Then I like to break down the defense. Look at the different fronts they are in, as well as there techniques. I spend a lot of time looking at how the LBs flow to the ball, and how they read and react to certain things.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

What separates me from the other prospects at my position is my size and speed ratio. Not to many RBs/FBs are my size and can move how I move. I also don’t have the mileage or wear and tear that most college RBs/FBs calculate over a college career. I definitely feel I still have a lot to prove and to show people. Coming from a small school, especially an HBCU I feel I will get overlooked, but I can outperform anyone in my position.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

My main focus this offseason is to focus on speed and agility. Continue to get faster, so that can separate me from others in my position at my size. Continue to stay sharp with my craft when It comes to agility and Running back drills. Doing those things will give me the best ability to come in day 1 and compete at a very high level. Mainly just making sure my body is as healthy as possible, so I can be ready for what’s next.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

The different set of strengths and abilities I know I can bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field is I am big physical ball carrier how can play any position in the backfield. Can be your every down RB, or I can come to a team and be a third down back. My biggest strength is I have a Running backs skillset but will play Fullback and dominate at that position. With my size, speed and strength I give a team that option to use me in a lot of places.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

My final pitch would be that you’re getting a person who was hit with every type of adversity, and still made it to this point. That shows my true love for the game, because a lot of people in my position would have decided not to continue to pursue this NFL dream. I started playing this game at 10 years old, and I don’t plan on giving up on it. I love everything that comes with the game. The grind, the preparation, and everything that has to do with it. It helped me become a first generation graduate, as well as helping me receive my second degree this may which is my masters. Im a player every NFL should want to take a chance on because they’ll be getting a person who can help an offense as well as all four core special teams units. Just take a hard look at me, and let me come help your team because I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunity for a shot in the NFL.
