Name: Rysen John
School: Simon Fraser
Position: WR
Height: 6’7″
Weight: 228
Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
Start of year as a senior, my WR coach basically told me there shouldn’t be a reason why you don’t get 1st All-Conference, get an All-American award and dominate in your position. Felt like I did just that and got the respect from the coaches and my teammates within the locker room this past season.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
I say that my coaches and teammates are always expecting big plays from me a day-in, day-out, but find ways to do the little things right. And it’s always important to have the respect within the locker room.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
When it comes to practices, there’s something to get better on each day, so most of the time I look for the negatives that I did in practice first and then correct coming closer to game time, that I don’t make the same mistakes and then naturally come into the game ready to go knowing what to do technique wise. Always want to start looking at the safeties and corners leverage, always want to determine pre-snap on the way they play their tendencies in specific coverages.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
I’m taller than most pass catchers in North America that Quarterbacks would love to throw my way, making me more of a bigger target on the field. And trusted in the run game with my blocking technique, using my strength on defensive backs.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
Overall training, bigger-faster-stronger, still keeping my body in shape for other prospect bowl games in the next year. Same time get down to Bellevue, WA to train over at Ford Sports Performance (FSP) and getting ready for combine training. Always be working on my craft as a wide receiver with the cone drills, hand work and perfecting the route tree. Basically getting my body ready to put my best foot forward.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Having to block out distractions within playing games and outside the field as well. Being focused on the task at hand. As young man off the field, growing up in the world after college, committed into excellence anywhere I go. And I like being a role model in the football world to youth players that do follow my career playing as well.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?
You’re going to get a guy that loves to make those big plays on a consistent basis. Willing to learn and and communicate with any quarterback to give ourselves a chance to make plays for the team, committed to do the little things, so I can just make it on any team in both NFL & CFL.
