Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
My goal was for my team to win the conference and win the national championship. Unfortunately, we were not able to accomplish either of those goals. I’m a player that sets team-related goals. I’m always working for the success of the team; I’m not a big stat guy.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
I believe that my coaches and teammates would say that I am a dependable player. On the field, they can count on me to do my job, always give 100% effort, and make a big play when it is needed most. Off the field, they can count on me to be an excellent student, help younger teammates with the playbook, and go above and beyond what is asked of me.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
I watch film in 3 ways. First, I watch myself to see what I do well and what I’m doing wrong. Some of the things that I focus on are effectiveness in my releases, efficiency in getting in and out of my routes, and how well I change tempo and attack blind spots. Second, I watch the opponent’s film to see what their tendencies are and what different strategies they are using. Finally, I watch NFL receivers to see what they do well. I try to implement what I learn from NFL players into my game. I like to watch releases from guys like Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill, and Justin Jefferson.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
There is talent everywhere at the wide receiver position, however, I believe my mindset and my ability to turn short passes into 11-yard runs after the catch is what separates me from other pro prospects. Also, one underrated aspect of my game is my ability to separate quickly; I can get 3 steps on a cornerback in 3 seconds. I am always a great option in the red zone. I have a high football IQ, I can learn and understand a playbook. As a former Defensive Back, I’m able to identify and understand defensive coverages quickly. I am always willing to learn, and I love to utilize my mind in football.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
I will be strength training and working with my personal speed coach to get faster. Also, I will be running routes and catching passes from several NFL quarterbacks. Lastly, I will be working with my personal receiver coach to continuously sharpen my wide receiver skills.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I will bring position versatility and I will be a willing contributor on special teams. I am an experienced punt returner and kick returner. I can get open against man coverage and I can get open in the red zone. The intermediate area of the field is where I can make a big difference. Teams will get someone who will do his job, be attentive, and put the team first. I bring a tremendous amount of speed and quickness, I play hard on every play, I take a lot of pride in blocking, and I am an excellent route runner. Teams will get a competitor who is always thinking of ways to beat the guy in front of him. Teams will get a player who is willing to learn and who will always work to be the best player possible. Teams will get a player who is selfless and one that will be a positive influence not only with the team but in the community.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
In space why does it matter if you are 6’4? You don’t have to be 6’4 to become something more than a gadget player as a wide receiver in the NFL. I know that I have the ability and work ethic to play at the professional level, I just need an opportunity. I will take full advantage of every opportunity before me to be successful.
