Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
In my final season one of my goals was to be the best impact player to help my team win games. When watching film and working on my craft I knew the best part of my game was my pass rush so I made it my personal goal to lead the league and team in sacks and by doing so I helped my team a lot and accomplished my goal.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
Team player more than anything. I have always been that guy on the team to lend a helping hand to others if they want or need some extra work after practice on techniques. My coaches would say I’m hard working, I’ve never been given anything and everything I have I had to earn coming up from not so athletic kid who had never played football before my freshman year of high school developing into a unique Division 1 football player with accolades to back my name. My teammates would say I’m a great leader and an even better friend. Somebody a teammate can always go to for advice and also an accountable teammate who will never oversleep or miss a practice/ workout.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
When I study film, my goal is to improve my mental understanding of the game, it’s important as a defensive player to understand offenses and their schemes. For example I look for tendencies when I study film of offenses, like What kinda plays they like to run and where they like to run them in terms of down and distance for certain route combinations or run plays. I look to see if there are any keys I can tune into in terms of heavy or light hands on the offensive line or even any body language that can dictate where the play is going or indicate the snap count. This all helps me improve my game by allowing me to understand my fits in the offenses and where they are trying to go with the ball so I can disrupt their plays. On a more individual level I also study what kinda players I’m going against and what pass rush moves for example the player I’m matched up against is susceptible to.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
What separates me from the rest of the players out there is my versatility. My last college season I made plays from every linebacker position from outside to middle and also was our teams best edge rusher in getting to the passer. When you watch my film you can see highlights jumping around from me lining up at DE and getting sacks to apexing the number 2 receiver and breaking up passes, in addition to lining up at middle backer and calling the plays and making TFLs. So in complete retrospect I think teams will love how much they can get out of me and my versatility to fill needs at several spots on the roster.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
I plan to be training back home in Miami, Florida. You never know when that phone will ring or what opportunities await the next day, so you can bet I’ll be working out and making sure I’m ready for any opportunity to play professional football that presents itself.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Off the football field I bring an optimistic energy, curious and very knowledgeable of the game and wanting to contribute in any way to help my team win. On the field, I bring a very versatile set of skills all based around pass rushing and playing Linebacker. I am physical and I am a 4 quarter player. Give me a job and I’ll get it done.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?
In my final pitch, I want people to understand that I am the hardest worker. Any team tells me what they need me to do and I will find out how to do it and make it happen. I’ve been doubted my whole life on whether I’d make it to be a division 1 football player out of high school, I was told I couldn’t play linebacker, I was told that I couldn’t compete with dudes at the division 1 level, I was told I wasn’t big enough, I wasn’t fast enough. I’ve been told many things and that’s never stopped me from getting to where I am now and the position I am in to secure pro opportunities in this game I love. So I ask what is to stop me from continuing to grow and get better now?
