Name: Ryan Janvion
College: Wake Forest
Position: Safety
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 200
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Ryan: Aggressive, relentless, smart.
Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?
Ryan: I’m really focusing on taking care of my body with my nutrition and balancing both strength and mobility to stay healthy. Working on my acceleration and speed during my training is also a big focus during training along with cleaning up my defensive back, football, and overall knowledge of the game. My approach is to show up every day with max effort and being able to say after every day that I got better and am closer to achieving my goals.
Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?
Ryan: I would compare myself to Earl Thomas because he is an all around safety that can both tackle and cover. If you watch Earl on film, you will never see him take a play off. He makes every single one of his reps count and is always flying to the football. He is also a great leader and a student of the game as well as a hard worker and someone who loves the game of football. These qualities define me and the way I play. I am a student of the game that never takes plays off and always try to make each play count. I am a hustle player and do my best to lead others around me.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
Ryan: When I study film, I focus on personnel, formation, and situational tendencies. I look at the players and find out what type of player they are and their strengths and weaknesses. I also pay close attention to formations and figure out what teams like to do out of certain formations as well as different situations in the game. While I watch film, I also focus on and envision how I would react to my opponent’s plays and the best way to defend them.
Q: What separates you from other players at your position?
Ryan: I have attention to detail and I am a student of the game. I was fortunate enough
to play a lot of football in my college career and I have learned a lot about the game
over my four years playing. I’ve learned how important the mental aspect is to football and it has allowed me to play faster and make smarter decisions on the football field. I also believe my toughness and work ethic separates me from the rest. I am willing to make the sacrifices necessary to be great which include the weight room, film room, training room, and football field. I am committed to improving myself and working to reach my goals.
Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Ryan: I believe I can bring leadership to a team both on and off the field both as a football player and as person who always wants to do the right thing and carry myself in a manner that’s pleasing to God. I believe I will be good for an NFL locker room by being able to personally impact players’ lives for the better even outside of football.
Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
Ryan: As a player, I have proven myself against the best and have both the physical
and mental capabilities to be successful in the NFL. I have the work ethic and the stamina that will keep me consistent and reliable as a player, while continuing to better myself in every way possible. My character will keep me focused on my job and will eliminate distractions off the field both for myself and for the team and I will be a great influence on those around me. I will be a first class representation of my organization.
