NFL Draft 2017 Prospect: Jared Joyner

Name: Jared Joyner
College: Campbell
Position: Running Back
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 208

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Jared: My play style is fast, aggressive, and all around.

Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?

Jared: I am training with my coach, Dwight Garner and his son Philip Garner who have their G-fitness personal training program, just as I have all the way through college with field work and weight work. Coach Dwight Garner used to be a Running Back at Cal and played in the NFL, his son Phil played for Kent State. They have been working with me for a while now helping mold me into the player I am, so I know they’ll keep me ready because I am ready.

Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?

Jared: I would compare myself to a Le’veon Bell type because of his versatility in and out of the backfield and his patience. He’s very dangerous with ball in his hands whether at Running the ball or catching the ball. He is also a good pass blocker and has great vision. I feel all those qualities describe my game.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

Jared: When I am studying film, I look for a players’ tendencies as far as how they like to tackle, what angles do they try and attack at, the techniques D linemen play in certain play calls, how the line backers and safeties line up in certain play calls, things of that nature on defense. On offense I watch my tendencies as far as how I react to how defenders attack me and I watch to see any hesitation I may have behind the LOS, if I’m being to hesitant or slow in decision making. I also look at the good things I do, just to finish on a positive note and continue to improve.

Q: What separates you from other players at your position?

Jared: What separates me from other players at my position is my versatility. I know I can run the ball at an elite level, but I can also catch the ball at an elite level. I am a great pass catcher out of the backfield and I can run any route if need be. Catching is as natural as Running to me. I have great speed as well I have the big play factor in me and I’ve shown it. Also, I am very good pass blocker. I’ve learned to focus on that even more throughout my college career. I pride myself on not being a one dimensional Running Back. I can do anything anyone asks of the running back position.

Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Jared: On the field as a running back of course we can all run, I feel as though I can run with the best of them at the next level, but my pass catching ability and blocking will stand out. Also, I can be a return man, I can play kick off, Punt team, whatever is asked of me. I feel as though I’m a very Coachable player, I take coaching very well and I pride myself in being the best teammate I can be. Off the field I won’t be a distraction and I like helping others whether it’s mentoring or giving back. I am honest and loyal and I will never quit, I never have. I see everything through.

Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

Jared: All I need is an opportunity and I’ll handle the rest, that has really been my life story. Every time I was given an chance in this sport I achieved greatness and I promise I will do that. My best playing days are in front of me. I will do all that is asked of me not only to make the team better, but organization as well.
