Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Garrett: Efficient, exciting, passionate.
Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?
Garrett: For my training I throw every day and lift 4 times a week. 2 of the 4 days also consist of speed and agility work on the field. I have also participated in several tryouts for CFL teams, as well as local pro days for the Raiders and 49ers.
Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?
Garrett: There are definitely some QBs I love to study film on and try to emulate, but none I would say I compare myself to. I have a lot more to accomplish before any comparisons can be made. The guy I love to watch most is Aaron Rodgers. I admire his perfect balance of being a pocket passer, as well as being able to make plays on the ground. He extends plays and can make a lot of things happen, which is also a big part of my game.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
Garrett: As a QB studying tape is so important. I try to cover it all over the course of the week. Whether that’s fronts, blitzes, coverages, etc. Obviously as a QB you need to know the ins and outs of your opponent, so that is what I did every week. Studying tendencies of coordinators is also a huge advantage when you get in the game. The preparation in the film room that you do during the week definitely slows the game down. It’s not just a cliché. When I watch film on myself I examine everything you can think of. During the offseason the focus is mostly on technique, so I examine everything from head to toe along with my QB coach Will Hewlett. Whether it’s my legs or left arm, we try to take out anything that can create inconsistencies. When it comes to practice and game film, I like to see where my eyes are and evaluate my decision making as well. It is very important to study how your eyes affect the defense, so that you can be a step or two ahead.
Q: What separates you from other players at your position?
Garrett: I think I have a unique ability to extend plays while keeping my eyes downfield that separates me from most. I also know that no one will out work me. I will compete to be the hardest worker wherever I go, because that is something I can control no matter my circumstances. That is something I have done throughout my football career.
Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Garrett: Like I said previously, I will not let anyone outwork me. I am starving for greatness and it will show. I will be someone with integrity and someone who loves his teammates. My actions will show my love for my team.
Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
Garrett: There is so much of my game that has not been seen yet and I can’t wait to let it out. If you want someone who will come to work every day starving to be great, I’m your guy. I want to be held to that.
