Name: Dante Edwards
College: Concordia University Wisconsin
Position: Wide Receiver
Height: 6’0″
Weight: 215
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Dante: Aggressive, Dependable & Hungry.
Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?
Dante: Constantly running the route tree and any other routes I may have to run in a teams offense. Catching at least 150-200 balls every time I do any field work if possible. Lots of footwork drills, trying to limit my steps at the top of routes. Also, my acceleration in and out of my routes and after the catch is a big thing I’m focused on getting better at.
Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?
Dante: I would have to say Dez Bryant or Anquan Boldin. I’m very physical with the ball in my hands and especially when it is in the air. I don’t go down easy and I’m hungry for the end zone every time I touch the ball. I feel that sets me apart from most wideouts, I’ll take hits and get right back up and deliver one right back.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
Dante: I always look at a teams tendencies during certain circumstances, 1st & 10, 3rd & long etc. More importantly, I look at how every secondary player likes to play. Is he physical and likes to get hands on? Does he like to bail and wait to see what I’m going to do. I always find it easier when the corner is physical, I feel I have the advantage then.
Q: What separates you from other players at your position?
Dante: I think that I’m different when it comes to ball skills and I don’t shy away from contact. When the ball’s in the air I’m confident that I’ll come down with it every time. When I have the ball I look to run guys over.
Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Dante: I believe that I could come in and not only learn the playbook quickly, but immediately stand out on special teams. I’m confident that I could come in and start on punt as a gunner and also on kick off. As for off the field, I believe that the logo never leaves you. You may not be wearing a teams logo, but people out in the world may know who you are and who you are associated with and if they see you acting out of character, that could leave them with negative thoughts about the entire organization. So, I’d be sure to always be aware of how I am as a person and be sure to never embarrass my team or family.
Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
Dante: If you take a shot on me you’re going to get everything I have. I’m a small school kid who came out of a junior college, so I’ll do whatever it takes. I’ve dreamt of this since I was a child, so now that the opportunity is here, I can’t let it slip away. Whoever picks me up is getting someone special. I bring more to the table than just playing wide receiver. I plan on making whoever doesn’t take a chance on me regret it every time I step on the field.
