Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

In my final season at UNI, one of the goals for myself was to be a dominant left tackle for one of the best offensive teams and lines in the Missouri Valley. I set out to be one of the best pass protectors in our conference and keep our QB clean. I wanted to build a culture of powerful, high scoring offense at UNI and feel successful in doing so.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

My coaches and teammates would describe me as a determined, competitive player that is always on time and ready to work. They would also say I led by example and helped younger teammates learn what it took to be a UNI football player. Playing multiple positions on the line over my career enabled me to be a helping hand regardless of my current position.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

When I’m studying film I always watch my fundamentals. Whether it’s the first two steps in the run game, the first two kicks in pass pro, my punch, or my hand placement, these are within my control and can always improve. On the defensive side, I look at the defense as a whole first to figure out their base defense. Knowing this, I can recognize the indicators of a pressure and blitz when they aren’t in their base defense. I will also watch my match up for that week. I study his stance for any situational differences and top two moves in the pass and run game to be the most prepared I could before going into the game.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

What separates me from the other prospects at my position is my versatility and adaptability. Throughout my career thus far, I’ve played offensive tackle and guard on both the right and left. I’ve also played tight end on the ball, on the wing, and spread out wide. Experience at multiple positions has enhanced my understanding of the game. I can confidently line up on either side of the ball and adapt to different defensive formations. As an offensive lineman pushing 6’8, I am able to use my length to my advantage in pass protection to keep the defense away from the QB.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

To train and prepare for professional opportunities, I have been weightlifting and doing cardio daily with our strength coach at UNI, Jed Smith. Since the end of the football season, I also decided to work full-time for our team orthopedic doctor to keep my mind sharp. It’s important to me to develop myself fully, both on and off the field. My plan going forward is to continue my clinical work and work out every day to become as well rounded as possible.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

The strengths and abilities I bring on and off the field are versatility, intelligence, and responsibility. I am versatile in my ability to play multiple positions on either side of the offensive line and be effective. My intelligence on the field has improved with experience. I have played longer and have more reps on the field against several different defenses and formations. Additionally, I have competed with and against current NFL players. Intelligence off the field has improved my understanding of the game from studying film and learning the entirety of the playbook, not just my position. Lastly, responsibility means I take ownership for my actions, I am reliable, and there is no question about my work ethic or dedication to the team. Off the field, I feel a responsibility to give back to my community. Over my time at UNI, I’ve refereed youth basketball games and volunteered my time with different organizations.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

I’ve faced several obstacles throughout my career thus far, but I’m eager for more. I enjoy the fight and welcome new challenges. I don’t consider myself a finished product. I’m motivated to improve my skills and techniques. If you’re looking for someone to give you everything he’s got, I’m your guy. I am a big, long armed, commanding player that takes pride in protecting my teammates and QB. I’m skilled at hitting and moving defensive players that will open holes for the running back. I am relentless and will do whatever is needed to help the team succeed. I’m ready to give a team everything I’ve got, while competing at the highest level.
