Name: Marquis Watson
School: Post
Position: CB
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 183
Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
My goals were always focused on team first and foremost, but I simply wanted to be the best at my position or whatever role I was asked to play. I was able to make 1st team all CSFL, so I feel I accomplished that goal. I basically wanted to leave everything out on the field with no regrets and shut every WR who lined up across from me down at all times! I was also proud of tying the school record for pass breakups.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My teammates & coaches would say I’m very hard working, always stayed motivated, and I wasn’t the loudest person on the field but you knew it was me when the crowd would go OOOOH! On those big plays.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
I study film everyday, even my practice film. I’m always trying to figure out ways to make my game better and fix little mistakes, like breaking on the ball, or when to flip my hips when trailing a WR.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
I could talk about my height and athletic abilities but my heart and will can’t be measured. Football is my life. The dedication and hard work I put in day in and day out to keep my body in the best shape, and compete at the highest of my ability doesn’t feel like work to me. I want to push those boundaries to see if they go as far as I think they can. I’m confident but ready and willing to learn. I persevered through a lot of adversity to this point in my football career but I have no quit in me!
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
I will be doing a lot of work with my trainer. I’ll be watching as much film as I can from this past season as well. We’ll analyze and identify strengths and weaknesses and how to strengthen those weaknesses, and reinforce the strengths. I’ll be ready when my name is called.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I can add a tough nosed mentality at any backfield position but I’m a physical corner that has a good eye for the ball. I am able to use my speed and length to make passes very difficult to complete over the top. Passes in front of me are met with sound tackling technique and sometimes a little extra pepper. Off the field I have always developed close relationships with my teammates at every level. Trust is a big part of team building. I work to earn the trust and respect of my teammates by simply being my authentic self, working hard, and forming bonds.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?
My final pitch is not as much a pitch as it is my truth. I’m a football player! I’m happy and humbled to answer all questions, but get me on a field, give me a look, and I can live with the results. I’m ready to show and prove that I can add value to a pro club.
