Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
The main goal that I strove to accomplish in my final season of college football was to be more efficient. I set a goal of bringing my completion percentage up 10%, while cutting down on my interceptions. In addition to these, I wanted to throw for more touchdowns. I achieved all of these goals. My completion percentage went up 13%, and I threw 4 interceptions, which was 3 less than the year prior. I completed 7 more passing touchdowns and 3 more rushing touchdowns than last year.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My coaches and teammates would contest that I am a leader who instills encouragement, direction, and resilience into the people surrounding me. Both my background and faith provide me with the ability to connect with and have a positive impact on teammates. I am the type of person who can always be counted on. They would say that I am the toughest person they know.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
When studying my own film, I look to see if I am anticipating the throw and being efficient with my movement in the pocket. I focus on trying to pick out any tendencies I had during the game that made things harder on myself and/or my team. When viewing film of opponents, I look to see if their defensive coordinator has tendencies to call certain plays on specific downs in consideration to which personnel are on the field. For example, if it was 3rd and 6, with 10 personnel on the field, I would look to see if he would he call the same front and coverage as if there were 11 or 12 personnel in the game.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
The factor separating me from other prospects at the quarterback position is my arm strength and instinctual ball placement. I was in a quarterback room among JT Barrett, Dwayne Haskins, and Joe Burrow, with the occasional pop in from Cardale Jones, in which my talent is parallel. Due to my experience with Coach Day, I was trained to know what a West Coast offense is and how to run it efficiently, which gives me a step ahead of the average rookie.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
I plan on becoming physically quicker, smoother in my motion, and lean. My intent is to train with Tony Racioppi or Quincy Avery.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
What I bring to the table is someone who is a leader, dependable, consistent, and hardworking. I will be selfless in the way that I will execute my role on the team, no matter what that role be at a given time. If I am the starter, I will prove to be a good mentor. If I am a backup, I will make sure the QB in front of me is ready, and if I am on the practice squad, then I will ensure the defense gets the best look possible day in and day out. Off of the field, I am an easy going individual that will unwaveringly avoid putting myself in a bad situation.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
As a man of faith, I put that at the forefront of who I am as a player. You are going to receive a quarterback who is willing to do anything it takes to be at the top of my game. I am a strong-armed quarterback who has touch and accuracy. My football IQ will help me with any playbook I am given. I am a big quarterback that possesses the ability to extend the play with my mobility. I am someone who is going to bring value to the franchise and elevate the culture in the locker room. If given the opportunity, I will put my best foot forward to uphold expectations and represent the values of the organization.
