Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
One of the biggest goals I had for myself as a player was to be more efficient. I want to always put ourselves in the best situations as an offense. That is through continuing to move the ball, and getting the ball into our playmakers hands. I wanted to raise my completion percentage because that means I am putting us in positive situations and ultimately scoring more points. Another goal I had was to bring my best self every single day. No matter if it was meetings, practice, walk throughs, or game day, I wanted to bring a positive mindset that is focused on the goal at hand. This is apart of growing as a leader and a person. I had and developed meaningful conversations and relationships with my teammates and coaches by showing up and being in the moment.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
I believe that my teammates and coaches would say that I am a player that would do anything to win the game. They would say how much I care about my teammates and seeing us be successful. I believe they would talk about how I have grown as a leader, and helped others around me become better players. One of the main things my teammates, and coaches would say about me is my willingness to win. I want to win a football game more than anybody, and am willing to do anything to do so. I also believe that they would say that I am a great person. I am comfortable in who I am, and able to build relationships with anyone. Building these relationships comes from being authentically who you are, and open to listening and learning more about that person.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
I am someone who has always enjoyed watching film. Watching film is a part of being a great player. My typical week during the season watching film: Sunday/ Monday- watch/rewatch game film from previous weeks. Things I look for would be making sure my feet are lining up with my progressions. Making sure I’m not sticking on reads too long, or passing up on an open guy. I am also looking for ball placement, I always want to take what the defense gives me, then get the ball out to the playmakers as fast as possible and allow them to get yards after the catch. Tuesday- I watch their base down defenses from their previous games. Looking for what coverages they like to play in first and second downs. Whether they blitz or sit and read in base downs. Wednesday- I watch their third down/ Redzone defenses. Looking for if they blitz more in these situations, what coverages they are confident in. Their different looks in different third down situations, or Redzone situations. Thursday- I would continue to watch third down and Redzone clips from previous games. I like to spend a lot of time watching these situations because these are the money plays. This is what they are confident in doing in the biggest situations of the game. The rest of Thursday and Friday- I would watch some of their last games as a whole. I do this to get a feel for when they do certain things defensively. I am a firm believer in watching film. The film never lies. I watch film to fix anything I have to do to become a better player, and find anything that can help me have a better idea of what they are going to do defensively.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
I believe my mindset is what separates me from other prospects and players. I believe in my work ethic and my willingness to be great. I am willing to do whatever it takes to ultimately win a football game, and those wins come from work and preparation throughout the week, and off-seasons. I love watching film and seeing the things defenses are trying to do to stop us as an offense. Along with the corrections I need to make in my own play. I love this game more than anything and I want to continue to learn and grow as a football player and a person through playing this game. I believe there are a ton of amazing football players, but there comes a time when someone has to make a play in a big moment. I always want to be the one in those moments and be the one dictating those plays.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
I am currently working on getting stronger and faster. I am working on gaining some weight. I am improving my footwork. I am working on various drops from under center (3 steps both ways, 5 steps both ways). I always want to be balanced and ready to throw no matter what is happening around me, or what base I have to throw from. I am going to continue to work on making every type of throw, from many different bases (on-schedule/off-schedule). I am preparing this offseason as if I will be playing quarterback at the professional level next season.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I am a player that has had the opportunity to see a ton of different defenses and ways defenses tried to stop us on offense. This has improved my abilities to understand defenses and where to go with the ball. I am a quarterback that can stand in the pocket and process my reads and make throws. I can also extend plays and make throws, or gain yards with my legs. Another strength for me is being a leader. I was a four-year starting quarterback. Being in this role for multiple years I have been able to grow and learn what it means to be a leader. Being a leader means truly getting to know your teammates and show them how much you care. Being a leader is on and off the field. Being a leader is all the time, being there for your teammates, friends, family when they need you.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
I have confidence in my abilities to play at the professional level, along with my work ethic and mindset to continue to get better in every aspect. I love football more than anything else, and I will always be around football no matter where life brings me. I have always had a chip on my shoulder and always will. I will bring a mindset to the team, that demands my best everyday no matter what my role may be. I am a person that wants the ball when it matters most. I want the ball in my hands on a 2- minute drive to go and win the game. I would accept any role that helps the team win. I want to be apart of winning, and a winning culture. Those things are made through preparation and work. I know no matter what my role is, I can positively effect winning.
