Kedrick Ward: 2020 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Kedrick Ward
School:  Texas Lutheran
Position: CB
Height:  5’11″
Weight: 180

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

My main goal going into this season was to help my team win the conference and get into the playoffs. We fell short, finished 8-1 in conference, and barely missed the playoffs. I knew it was going to be tough coming into the season that’s why we worked hard in the spring. I put a lot of work in over the summer and worked out with some of my teammates, so I am proud of the many accomplishments we had this season.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

They would say that I am a team first player and I try to lead by example. I can’t speak too much for them, but I’m guessing they would say that I am a leader and a hard worker.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

When I watch film I focus on the little details that I could have done better. When I mess up, I kind of know what I did wrong. So when I go back on film, I’ll correct myself and be like okay how could I have put myself in a better position to not allow this to happen and I’ll fix it. But on other plays and plays that I make, I’m probably thinking about my eyes and looking at the film watching my feet, and seeing if my steps and my backpedal good, or if I should’ve stayed low and got out of my break better. Or if I could’ve closed on the route better and made a better play.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

I am willing to do whatever I can to help my team and I believe this because I love playing special teams just as much as I love playing defense. I’ve started on multiple special teams while starting on defense for years in college so I can go. When I’m on the field I treat every play the same and I think that’s what help separate me.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

My offseason plan is to put on a few pounds and continue to get stronger and quicker. I’m playing in the HBCU Spirit of America Bowl coming up in January, so right now I’m training, taking care of my body and preparing for that game. It will be my last college football game and a chance for me to get a look by some professional scouts, so I’m going to enjoy it and hope for the best. After that I’m going to get back to work and get ready for a pro day, but right now I’m taking it one day at a time.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

I bring a lot of energy and focus on and off the field. One of my strengths and that I am willing to put in the work in order to get the results I want. I’ll get after it off the field in the weight room and on the field when I’m playing.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?

Film don’t lie. I know a lot of good players in my position get overlooked because we don’t play at the big name schools, but out there on the field we make the same type of plays NFL scouts look for great players to make. I believe I can play at the next level, so I’m going to keep working until I can open up an opportunity for myself.
