Keandre Powell: 2022 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Keandre Powell
School: Central State University
Position: DB/CB/LB

Height: 6’0”
Weight: 190

What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

I set goals to be one of the best defenders on our team, to finish with a winning record and to make all conference honors. I got snubbed and fell short because of politics even with better numbers then players in my position.

Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?

I took advantage by getting better everyday learning from mistakes and what not to do, studying and perfecting my craft, listening to others who were in my position to separate myself from the pack to standout and get noticed.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

I believe my coaches and teammates would say I’m a very emotional leader, they would say I’m a savage and will do anything to get the team what it needs. Ultimately I believe they would say more about my character than my style of play.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

I focus on my alignment, my responsibilities, my leverage, a lot of the intangibles, my efforts if I’m loafing or taking plays off, what my opponent tendencies are— is he slow/fast off the line, what moves does he like to go to in redZone or long down and distances, routes, how physical are they? Does he like to use his hands? All small details is what I study.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

My versatility, may sound cliché but I can play anywhere in the backfield and even a LB position and be a hybrid if I have to, to come up and be physical at the LOS. A lot of DB’s don’t like to get down in the trenches or tackle but I love being around the ball, good things happen when you hustle to the ball.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

Make everyday count, these opportunities come and go to the next person who doesn’t take advantage. I will be with my trainers who are in Columbus, Ohio preparing me for any more bowl games, combine and pro day opportunities to showcase.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Outside of football traits. Perseverance and charisma. The ability to see it through regardless of the circumstances we’re dealing with at hand. That goes for both on and off the field. I’ve always been charismatic and just something that clicks with folk upon our interaction. On the field, my quick witty reactions, my speed and ability to get to the ball no matter where I’m at, physicality and presence to be felt, intelligence and instincts the things that come to me just from knowing the game and what to expect.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

I’ve always been the under dog and over looked. Every time odds were stacked against me, I’ve proven non-believers wrong and myself right every time to come out on top. Whatever task you give me I guarantee it will be done with maximum efforts to ensure we’re in a winning position. Anything to help the team it will be done, put me anywhere on the field and plays will be made. Regardless if it’s special teams, offense or defense, I’ll make sure of it, I love the game and it loves me back I put my all into this to reap what I sow so the results and production is what I make it. An investment worth while.
