Name: Josias Roman
School: Curry College
Position: OL
Height: 6-6
Weight: 370
Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
I set the goal to be to be the best offensive tackle in my league. I set this because I feel like last year I had did enough to establish my self and get all conference, or some type of recognition and I didn’t. so that really drove me in the off-season and I come back and get All-CCC and was a lineman of the year front runner.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
I believe my coaches and teammates would say that I’m a passionate leader, and a really aggressive player. Because when people aren’t hustling in practice or taking reps off I’m going to be on you, but if you get a highlight I’m going to be the first guy there to high five you. But my teammates also know I love contact and I love putting people on the ground so they might say I’m a little extra at times but as an offensive lineman that’s what you have to be.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
One of the main things I focus on is my feet, at the tackle position is all about keeping your feet moving, because if you stop them for a second you’re beat. So feet is a huge thing, but also my hips. I want to see if I’m using them to generate power for displacement or regular one on one. Another thing I focus on is hand placement and see if I’m getting my hands on him fast and in the right place. When I’m studying an opponent, I look at his get off, pad level, go to pass rush move, secondary pass rush move, and then just situational things like 3 & 8-10, 2nd & 5-7, etc.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
Number one thing is mentality. I can’t lose, I hate losing, more than I love winning. So I never want to lose, whether it be the national championship game or 1 on 1 at practice, my mentality has put me in a place that I refuse to lose so I don’t care if I’m lining up against Aaron Donald I’m going to believe that I’m better than him and I’m going to dominate. And let’s say I lose the first one on one anyways, only thing you’re gonna hear from me is “run it back” and I’m going to keep saying it until I win. A lot of other player wouldn’t be able to get there kind in this state of mind and they would lose that battle everytime, and just lay down and die.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
I’m training right now in the my hometown of Brockton MA with my trainer, we had to focus on my hip mobility and explosion. every time I get it it’s almost like I have to train for my day to be complete.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I’m a happy giant! I bring good vibes on and off the field and look to help anyone that needs it. I will lead not only but my words but by example. And I work very hard to achieve my personal goals and over all team goals.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
You will not regret it. You will not regret giving me an opportunity to change my situation, and my family’s situation. I will take this opportunity and maximize it to the best of my ability because I want this. I want this more than any player you’re looking at right now! So take the chance and you won’t regret it.
