Jervon Newton: 2023 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Jervon Newton
School: Mars Hill University
Position: RB
Height: 5-11
Weight: 200

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

The goals I set for my final season were to rush for over 1000 yards and have over 10 touchdowns and I achieved both.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

My coaches and teammates will say I’m a hard worker and passionate about the game and will do anything to help the team win. Also, I’m a very coachable player and a quick learner.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

When I focus on film I tend to look at how the linebackers and the defensive line play. I like to see if the linebackers are read-and-react or hole pluggers. If the linebackers are read and react I can tempo myself to give the offensive line time to combo up to the backers and if they’re hole pluggers, if they shoot the wrong gap I’ll make them pay every time. When I look at the defense line I like to see if they slant or play gaps and also see how they come off the ball and how they move.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

What separates me from other pro prospects is my work ethic on the field and off. The time I put into my craft rather that’s practice or in the film room I’m always trying to find ways to get better physically and mentally. Also, I’m trying to dominate the game, not just be a part of it. My pass protection and my vision set me apart as well as my ability to cut on a dime.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

My off-season plan is to train back at home in Florida.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

The strength I bring to any team is my leadership rather that’s vocal or lead by play. My abilities are limitless I can play any skill position on offense. I have tunnel vision as well when I put my helmet on I’m a completely different person.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

I’m ready to come in and compete for a role on the team rather that’s special teams or a spot on the depth chart at running back. I’m ready to put my head down and work and learn I’m very coachable as well.
