Jamie Pogue: 2022 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Jamie Pogue
School: Hardin-Simmons University
Position: K
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 194

What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

I had the opportunity to break several school records this year, which was a career accomplishment that was very special to me. But mostly, I just wanted to be a great teammate and to soak in every moment, and I do feel that I accomplished that in full.

Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?

I had another opportunity to add to a resume, which a lot of small school specialists need as they require a greater sample size to be marketable. I also really worked on my consistency and I believe that I proved that my production is not an anomaly or a coincidence.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

I think they would say that I was a blue-collar, bring your lunch-pale to work kind of player. I prided myself on how I performed in offseason and in the summers, wanting to emphasize that I was a real-deal player and not just a specialist.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

Definitely leg strength. Its something that I can improve on. Some of that is in tightening up form, and I think you can see that from the tape.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

My consistency. I played at the same level, every year, for four years. I performed in big-time situations, and I hope that that longevity will get my foot in the door somewhere.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

Stay in form, regardless of my free agent status. Kickers get their very limited opportunities in less-optimal or mid-season conditions in a lot of instances, so I’m definitely playing the long game. Stack days, keep the vision, and continue to lift and kick like you’ll get your shot tomorrow.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

I believe that I am a great locker-room guy. A guy that can bring spirit and energy into a room and continue to perform at a high level. My greatest accomplishment in college was being a two-time player-elected captain, and I believe I will only build on that in a professional locker room.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

I kicked 242 times in my college year. I converted on 229 of those. A .946 execution rate. I was a model of consistency, and all I’m asking for is one shot. Anywhere from anybody.
