Giovanni Lugo: 2020 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Giovanni Lugo
School: Savannah State/Georgia State
Position: K/P
Height: 6’0″
Weight: 200

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

My goal this year was to execute when my time came. I was nearly perfect on field goals and punted my team in excellent field position consistently. Also, when my number was called, I executed under pressure every time.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

I believe they would say I work hard, am A team player, and a leader on and off the field. When asked to play other positions like QB, I was there when ever they needed me. I not only delivered when asked, but executed in high pressured situations. I believe that they would also say when the games on the line, they would have complete trust in me to get the job done.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

Technique, technique, technique is my number one focus when studying film. When it comes to kickers and punters, every inch matters. Greatness comes from a lot of small things done well. Also Focusing on putting the ball in the correct spot for punts and kickoffs, to make sure I put our coverage team in the best possible situation to win was also another strong area for me.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

What separates me from other Pro prospects is Leg Strength and Consistent Accuracy, as well as true athleticism. When you get me, you don’t just get a kicker/punter; You get a weapon. I can do multiple different kicks/punts, and I am a dual-threat QB. I am very talented and have a competitive spirit like you wouldn’t believe.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

I recently moved to San Diego, California, to train with a team of professionals to prepare me for the upcoming draft. My coaches and I are committed to putting me in the best position to perform at the highest caliber possible.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

One of my biggest strengths besides Leg Strength and Accuracy is that I play even better under pressure. The more pressure, the better I play. I was built for high pressured situations that call for an athlete to perform under pressure. I have an Olympian Athlete Mindset that allows me to perform in extreme situations. It is not pressure for me, it’s Go Time! I have an intense work ethic and want my team to win. I also have been a leader on and off the field my entire life; all of this is just part of who I am.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?

I am your guy and will be a weapon for your team. With me, you have an advantage with long field goals, put me in, need a game-winner, put me in, need a punt to switch field position consistently, put me in, need the ball downed inside the 10, put me in! With me you don’t have ten players and a kicker, you have 11 players.
