Name: Gary Ramey Jr

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
Goals of mine before this season were to go undefeated in conference play, win the ODAC championship, and make a run in the post season as a senior. Fortunately, we accomplished nearly all of those goals finishing the season 10-1 conference champions, with a first round playoff loss to #9 Delaware Valley. Individually, I had the goal of being a two time team captain, which I was able to achieve, as well as garnering an All-ODAC nominee for the third time and to be a first team all state linebacker. Both, with the help of my teammates and coaches, I was able to accomplish.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
They would say that I am accountable on and off the field as well a versatile playmaker whenever needed. I pride myself on stepping up to make plays whenever my team needs it and I believe my hard work in the meeting room and throughout the week at practice makes that possible. I also believe they would consider me a great leader in every aspect. I have the ability to lead vocally and by example through my work ethic and physicality.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
With the help of my great coaches over my time at Bridgewater, they helped me learn new and innovative ways to break down film and get a better understanding of my opponent. I like to focus on down and distance tendencies, especially 3rd down which is the most important down for a defense. I believe it’s important to learn route concepts as a defensive player who needs to be able to play in pass coverage, as well as pick up on personal player mannerisms to give me every advantage possible come game time.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
I believe I possess a size/ athleticism ratio not many prospects have at my position. At 6’5, I believe I have some of the best footwork at Linebacker and I have experience playing defensive back as well as defensive end. I have also played a lot of college football and have experience playing all kinds of offenses and formations. I have the capability to play in the box at linebacker, and on the edge as a standup outside backer with the experience to back it up. Mentally, I am a student of the game and will do whatever it takes to help the team win, and make my team better.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
Before the COVID-19 outbreak, I was working out with Master Strength and Conditioning Coach, Brandon Beach. He is the full time Strength coach at Bridgewater College and he has been helping some of my fellow teammates and myself get our bodies ready for all of the combine and pro day drills, all while keeping us in the best physical shape for when it’s time to play football again. At home, I am still working out every day and staying in shape whichever way I can.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
My overall knowledge of the game of football will stand out amongst any group of people regardless the age or situation. I have aspirations of being a coach when my playing days are over and I pride myself with the mentality of being a coach on the field for my teammates. I have the ability to cover tight ends and slot receivers 1 on 1, the ability to rush the passer from the edge, run stunts and blitzes properly, set the edge, spot drop in coverage, and route match without mental hiccups. I personally believe I am one of the most versatile players in this class of great linebackers.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?
My entire life I have worked at my craft and understand what it takes to win every level I have participated so far. By taking a chance on a small school guy like myself, you will be getting someone who will push his teammates as well as himself to the best of their and his ability. My play will not only live up to the expectations, but I believe it will exceed those expectations when given the opportunity. I eat, sleep, and breathe football, and I cannot wait to represent your organization on Sundays.
