Felix King: 2023 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Felix King
School: Grand View University
Position: DB
Height: 5-8
Weight: 175

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

For my final season I wanted us to become conference champions along with making another run for the national championship but be on top this year. On a personal note I wanted to grow as a leader within my team and to seperate myself as one of the best DBs in the conference let alone division and country. Collectively we accomplished conference but lost in the semis this year. Individually, I gained some accolades while also making a statement.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

They would say i’m a selfless, passionate and calm player. I take the game very serious when it comes to the mental aspect of it. I alway want the people I’m involved with to succeed and reach their full potential. I always try to have my teammates in the right head space before, during and after the game as well as mentally engage with them on how we can continue to stay consistent and poise. Even in the film room its important there’s always discussion and truth when trying to uplift your brothers.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

When it comes to myself, I look at any false steps or movements I have made and try to correct that. I also look at how to disguise different coverages in order to allow myself and my team to not be predictable. Finally, I look at my technique and effort which can always easily be corrected. As far as opponents, I look at how certain splits and formations can give certain concepts away. I study the skill player’s body language and movements throughout the game whether, run or pass, so there is an advantage to know what’s coming. I look at lineman tendencies as well, specifically the guards. I say that because when it comes to the run game from a safety’s perspective they can be an indication.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

My versatility and poise. I say this because I have played every part of the defensive backfield and can contribute in any position due to my IQ of each position and the game. Knowing certain rules, schemes and techniques help me stand out at each position. I also said poise because I don’t show anything on my face when on the field. Despite how passionate I am about winning and this game I always think “it’s not over until the clock hits zero” and try to stay in a short term memory mentality when playing because it’s always on to the next and you never know when that last play is. Not only on defense but my ability to play speical teams is immense because every year I’ve always been on two or more units proving I can succeed on two different aspects of the game.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

I attended the College Gridiron small school showcase, where the impact I made was small yet humbling and noticeable. Soon after, I plan to train at D1 Training in Des Moines, Iowa with former UNI legend Karter Schult.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Besides the versatility and poise, I bring an energetic feeling around a team. I also bring excellent communication on and off the field. I say this because i am very transparent and want the ones involved with me to understand me while I can understand them. I can also play man inside or out as well as off, press or catch. The ability to be a fast leaner is something I take pride in too because once i’m told one I pick it up very quickly.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

Being counted out is normal to me and it’s fine because I live to prove people wrong and earn the respect that I’ve never been given. I am willing to do whatever it takes to play at the next level and put myself in the best situation in order to achieve such a goal. There is no time ever I will question the process or what i’m told because I trust the knowledge given to me and apply it to my daily life so I can succeed in the future.
