Name: Dustin Burns
School: Northwestern State
Position: OL
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 300
Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
One of the goals I set for myself was to be consistently the highest graded OL in our room. Throughout our 12 week season I was fairly consistent with having the highest grade but there were a few weeks when one of my teammates graded higher than I did. Another goal that came into existence around week three was to be 100 percent on snaps delivered to the Quarterback all season. That goal was accomplished.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My teammates and coaches would describe me as a high motor versatile offensive lineman with the ability to be nasty between the lines and leave that behavior on the field. Also as a player who will contribute whatever he can to do what’s best for his team or unit.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
During film study I tend to focus on the stance, alignment, the positioning on the field, and the overall demeanor of an opponent. By being so detail oriented I pick up on patterns and tendencies of my opponents.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
The thing that separates me from the other prospects is that I am very versatile. I’ve played all five positions on the offensive line throughout college. I also have collegiate experience long snapping for both field goals and for punts.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
During this offseason I have been training at APEC in Fort Worth. After APEC had to close I have been doing the workouts they have programmed for us at home. I have been able to use a private gym to keep training strength and power and an indoor facility to run drills and do speed work daily.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
The strengths and abilities that I will bring to a team would be that I am a smart guy, I am versatile, and I buy in to the program because I love being involved whether that is in different aspects of the community or in a team aspect. I look forward to building a positive image in the community for my team through involvement and community service.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL/CFL or any other pro leagues?
My final pitch to any pro league would be that I am a guy who can be plugged in at many different spots. I am the kind of guy who looks forward the challenge and hard work. I am more than willing to put the time and effort in, I just need the opportunity to.
