Desmon Darby: 2023 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Desmon Darby
School: Lake Erie College
Position: DT
Height: 6-3
Weight: 315

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

The main goal I set this year was to play with confidence and consistent because I felt in the past that had been my biggest hinderance. This season I feel I accomplished that as I was able to wreak havoc against my matchups all season long.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

I think my coaches and teammates would say I’m a resilient player and a quiet leader that is consistent and physical.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

When studying film on my self I pay attention to my technique such as hand placement and footwork. These things are important for me to break down and analyze as I am watching things that can be tweaked and executed better. When watching opponent film I watch the ways my matchups have gotten beat to learn what would work against them.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

I have aggressive hands and long arms that allow shed blocks, hold gaps, and create separation effectively. I use my body to my advantage which allows me to make up for areas I may be weak in. I’d also say my ability to indirectly affect plays.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

I plan to focus on my technique and explosiveness as I feel these will be important skills to my success at the next level.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

I’d bring consistency, high motor, and a strong competitive spirit. These are things I feel my game and life has always embodied and has allowed to progress in my football career.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

If you were to add me to the roster you’d be getting a player that is willing to learn and get better, a player that is hardworking, and resilient. You’d be adding someone that can change the line of scrimmage on run plays and press the pocket in the pass. You’d also be adding a teammate that is willing to assist where needed, a leader that teaches behind the scenes, and a player who’s personality would create smiles and laughter throughout the organization.
