Davion Shelton: 2018 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Davion Shelton
School: Southwest Minnesota State
Position: Tight End
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 245

Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?

As far as team goals, I wanted my team to make it into the playoffs and compete for a championship. The individual goals that I had for myself were to just be the best team player I could be. I believe if I do my part and give 100% effort, everything else would fall in place. Also, I wanted to make All-Conference.

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Versatile, smooth, and relentless.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I have dedicated myself to the weight room this past offseason to gain more muscle and strength and also sticking to the field work as far as route running, catching, blocking techniques, and conditioning. I watch a lot of football as well, so studying the game and watching my favorite players is always a must for me.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

I look out for several things. I’ll take a look at each DE and DT and study their favorite moves while they’re being blocked. Also, I watch how they approach 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down (4th down as well if a team went for it). Same thing for the linebackers and safeties for when I’m split out into the slot. I’ll take a look at how they react and cover certain routes. Overall, I just study my opponents strengths and weaknesses.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

I feel like my versatility and my route running ability separates me from other guys at my position.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

On the field, I feel like anyone who lines up against me will not beat me. I’m very confident in my ability. I’m quick for my size and one that catches a lot of defenders off guard. Off the field, I’m a very outgoing and funny person. I’m full of energy and people just love my vibe and the type of person I am.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

I’m a guy who is very passionate about this game of football. It has been apart of my life since I was 8 years old and this is my way out. I take this sport very seriously, but at the time I’m always having fun with it. I’m hardworking, persistent, and I will always give 100% out there. I refuse to disappoint.
