Christian Witchey: 2020 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Christian Witchey
School:  Saint Vincent
Position: P/Holder
Height:  6’2″
Weight: 200

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

Have the best season of my career. Accomplish everything that I have not yet to date to further etch my name in St. Vincent College Football history. I wanted to be named First Team All-PAC, something I was unable to do until the 2019 season. I’ve been the runner up, Second Team All-PAC for the last two years. I hold the records for career average, single season average, attempts in a game, and the longest punt on Chuck Noll field.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

A fun guy who brings swagger and a hard competitive work ethic day in and day out. A guy who will fight continuously to improve the team to take us to the next level.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

Any way I can possibly provide the defense with the best field position possible. Whether it be limiting my handling time, shortening my steps, getting maximum height and maximum distance on the ball to give us the advantage in field position throughout the game.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

My ability to never get complacent. No matter how many awards or success comes my way. There’s always room for improvement I have a desire and hunger to be the best punter wherever I am.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

Still continue to train as if I was gearing up for another season next season. Pushing myself to reach new max out numbers in the weight room to continuously improve to be the best punter I can possibly be with my God given talent.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Active in the community that I am apart of. I am the co-founder of a scholarship that helps send a high school senior to college who’s life has been affected by cancer. I strive to be a leader, role model, and positive example of what a St.Vincent Football player should be like.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?

In 2016, head Coach Ron Dolciato took a chance on me, something not many others did. He understood the value of how a good punter can be a weapon in special teams. Through a lot of ups and downs in my life including the death of my mother in 2017, I have not reached my full potential. That experience motivated me to get better not bitter. She’s my why in life and I will continue to cherish her legacy wherever I end up in life.
