Name: Charles Headen
School: SMU/Shippensburg
Position: WR/KR
Height: 5’8”

What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

Coming from a division 2 school my ultimate goal was to get better and enhance my skills before pursuing to go pro after my final season.

Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?

This extra year of eligibility helped me a lot. Going from division 2 to a fbs program was a big jump for me and allowed me to play on a bigger stage and got me a chance to compete with alot of talent that only made me better before pursuing to go pro.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

My coaches and teammates would say I am very dedicated to my craft. I am somebody that you don’t have to worry about on or off the field. I am someone that takes everything that I do seriously when it comes to this sport. They will say I am always working to get better if that means staying after to get extra work in after practice or coming in early to see extra film and what I can correct in my game.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

Playing in the slot primarily, the first thing I’m looking for in film are the tendencies of safeties, outside backers , and nickels. Playing slot those are the three primary defenders that will be covering me so those are my first and most important focus. I also still like to look at the corners outside because them along with the safeties give away the coverage the defense will run 9/10. Knowing tendencies and coverages help to let me know how much time I have in and out of routes and how creative and deceptive I can be when running my specific route.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

My ability to separate during routes. I take pride and being open on every single target that I get. I also have a track background since high school so my speed is one thing that will separate especially once I run my 40 at pro day scouts will see I can flat out run. Scouts will also see that for a smaller receiver I catch everything that is thrown to me. My experience is also a big key to me being different than other prospects. Being a 6 year gave me another year to get better and sharpen all my skills.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

I am currently training at Apec in Fort Worth preparing for my pro day at SMU March 24th.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

The biggest strength & ability I would say is I am coachable. I am always willing to learn and take coaching and constructive criticism from someone who is trying to help me get better.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

An NFL team is getting a player who is going to work and perfect his craft each and everyday on and off the field. I am a player that an organization will never have to worry about if he is all in or not. I am someone who loves this game very deeply and I will not be denied until I achieve my goals in the NFL.
