Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
Well my first goal was to win a national championship. To do that I set goals to be the best leader I could be on and off the field. One of my greatest accomplishments was being named captain of our team because that meant that my teammates looked up to me. Then my second goal was to just enjoy the last season. Try to not get all worried about stats and just play my game.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My coaches would say that I am a relentless worker that is always gonna make myself better every day. I’m hard on myself. Whether it was in the classroom, film, workouts, or on the field I was always trying to learn and better myself. I believe that if you aren’t continually learning you aren’t getting better.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
When watching film I’m always critiquing myself and looking on what I could’ve done better. Maybe I could’ve attacked the line of scrimmage better. Or taken a better first step that would’ve turned a 2 yard gain into a 1 yard loss. It’s the little things that I’m continually working to perfect everyday. Then when it comes to opponent film I’m always looking for tendencies or giveaways so I can know what plays are coming. As a linebacker you have the ability to put other people in position for success so knowing plays that might be coming is always helpful.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
What separates me from other players doesn’t have to do with my hard work or will to play the game. Lots of people have that at this level and if you want to play at this level that is a given. I believe my greatest strength is my knowledge of the game. I take pride in knowing the whole defense, inside and out. And I’m a fast learner. When it comes to this game I’m a perfectionist.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
Right now I am preparing for the D2 senior bowl in Myrtle Beach. Then from there I would be figuring out my options of a place to train with professional trainers that are going to help my improve physically and mentally.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Off the field I love being involved in the community. I have a very soft spot for children and have done kids camps all throughout my time at USF. I am always a team first guy. And am going to find my role in a team and do it to the best of my ability.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?
All I’m looking for is a chance. I grew up in small town South Dakota and have had to prove myself every step of the way. And when that chance comes. I’m not going to let it slip from me. That’s for sure.
