Andre Mintze: 2021 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Andre Mintze
School: Vanderbilt University
Position: OLB
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 250

Q: In your final collegiate season, what goals did you accomplish this fall or set for this upcoming spring?

With a new defensive coordinator, and position coaches the main goal we had for our unit was to play together with physicality, energy, and ultimately win because of it. Though those goals didn’t pan out on the win column this year, there were moments where we did play as unit with great physicality and energy, so I consider that a goal accomplished.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

My counterparts would describe me as a passionate player that leaves no stone unturned when it comes to preparation for a game as well as overall work ethic. I do my best to live by the mantra, “First one in, and the last one to leave.” Surely my teammates and coaches would attest to that.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

When I study film on my opponent I look for things like formation recognition, tackles run/pass keys, and tendencies that I can lookout for in game situations.

In terms of improving my game, I really stress my consistency in using the proper technique when setting the edge, shedding blocks, and ultimately rushing the passer. It’s the little things you have to constantly stress, hand placement, attack angle, eye placement, and even your stance consistency it’s a never ending process. I am trying to get to the point where I can’t perform my technique wrong.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

What separates me from other players is my work ethic, attention to detail, and overall desire to be coached into an All-Pro level player. Often times at this level the focus and dedication to the smallest details can be overlooked. With my awareness/focus on trying to perfect these details on defense & special teams, my play and attitude will separate me from other guys.

Q: What is your plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities, especially with the virus limiting pro days/training facilities/etc?

I am fortunate enough to train in Miami at Bommaritos Performance, and will do all the testing at my schools Pro Day.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

The abilities that I would bring to an organization include energy, the desire to be coached, an obsessive attitude towards being a great football player/pro and eventually vocal leadership later down the line. Once I earn the respect of my coaches, and teammates to be vocal, I will also use that ability.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL/CFL or any other professional leagues?

If you need a player that is invested in pushing your organization towards winning in any way possible I am your guy. Whether that be through defense, and or all phases of special teams, my desire to win and to be a great professional football player is unmatched and will be felt on a daily basis especially Sundays.

If this is the type of guys you are looking for call me in April!
