Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
A personal goal i set was to be able to understand defenses beyond the DL and the LBs as well as earn All American again. We wanted to win the 3 peat for the conference as a team and make a run in the playoffs but we fell short in the conference chip.
Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?
I took advantage of the extra year both mentally and physically, More mental than anything. It takes a lot of mental capacity to play at the next level especially at the center position. I spent a good bit of time on the white board and in the film room learning how to pick up on small giveaways in coverages along with LB and DL alignment. LB and DL alignment will tell you everything you need to know about the defenses scheme/stunts they can run.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
I think my coaches and teammates would say I’m a great leader, teammate, and motivator. I’m the type of guy that is going to give you my all every time i step out on the field and i want to bring everyone around me up to that same level regardless of losing friends or hurting feelings. I want what is best for the overall group rather than just myself.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
I watch everything when breaking down film. From defensive structure, alignment, coverages, all the way down to small giveaways to stunts/blitz like Lb alignments over DL, or different hand/foot placement in a stance. Aside from general defensive line structure i like to key in on each Lb and their individual giveaways. Each player usually has something different they do when they blitz or shift the defense. Some of the most fun preparation is finding each persons giveaway. My OL coach did a great job teaching me to watch film the right way and It has definitely translated to my play on the field.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
I’ve already started training for my pro day. I’m currently looking for an agent to represent me. Have spoken to a few agents but my search is still open.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I think my biggest strength is my football knowledge. I don’t think you will find anyone who watches more film then me and that can dissect a defense in real game/practice time after seeing It on a board or in the film room. I watch the most obvious things down to the smallest give aways such as a different hand or foot back in a stance giving away a stunt or blitz. Another strength I believe is my ability to pull and block in open space or at the next level.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
My final pitch is that i don’t think their is another C/G in this class that understands the game quite like i do. I might not be the biggest but I’m for damn sure the smartest/most prepared. Im always going to be where i need to be, when i need to be there. And that’s goes for on and off the field. You can hold me accountable.
