Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?
Getting myself back into the rotation. The year before that, I had an injury which put me in the place where I almost stopped playing football. Having a great career at the junior college level, I had high expectations, but my last year I made sure that I got back on it. I came a long way and I wasn’t going to stop.
Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?
I believe my coaches will say that I’m a competitor and always have the will to fight. I’m also a leader, for example I’m never late, I’m always on time, I do things as a professional.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
When I’m studying film, I focus on things like did I get better each game, taking good steps, making sure that I keep my eyes low, don’t look in the battlefield, stuff like that. I make sure I’m getting better as a linebacker. You need to compose your eyes, your movement, and your angles are very important and of course you have to play fast and be physical.
Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?
What separates me from other players at my position is that I play free minded, meaning I play fast and physical and I’ve been coached by great coaches. One coach named Zach Tenuta told me if you think you stink, so I always live by it. I just play fast and I believe I do that pretty well.
Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?
For me, I had a little set back. I will need surgery for my right shoulder, but after that, I’ll definitely train, do therapy, working on my speed, get stronger, and all that to get back to where I should be overall. I’m just staying positive and hopeful to get an opportunity, whether it’s the NFL, CFL, AAF, or XFL. I just want an opportunity to prove myself.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Well, what I bring to a team is being a leader, being vocal as a linebacker, you need to be vocal, especially being the Middle Linebacker. We are the quarterbacks of the defense. Off the field, I definitely love helping the community, seeing kids giving them encouragement or helping paint a small YMCA, that’s what I love to do.
Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
Overall, I believe I’m a great linebacker that can go sideline to sideline and I’m versatile. I can play middle or outside linebacker, Rush/Jack, and I’m very physical, long arms, vocal, and coachable. I love special teams and am a good locker room guy that loves to win.
