Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?
My goals were to win the conference as a team and be an All-American. The team and I fell short of these goals which was extremely disappointing. I’m content with how hard I worked, though, and the effort I gave. I struggled with a high ankle sprain which was brutal, but injuries are a part of the game.
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Relentless, passionate, and versatile.
Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?
I trained at California Strength right outside of San Francisco. It was an amazing experience and I really improved in my 2 months there. I trained with a few combine invitees which was great because I pushed myself every day. Currently, I am working out at school as I take classes before graduating in the Spring.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
First, I want to know what the opponent’s base defense is and who their best players are. I will then look at the safeties, linebackers, and d-ends I will be going against. After that, I will look at blitzes and coverages they like to do in certain situations. I will go through various cut-ups for third downs, red-zone opportunities, backed-up situations, and open field plays. I like to start out broad by watching full games then go into as much specific detail as possible. I believe film study is something that has enhanced my play on the field.
Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?
The intensity and effort I play with. I will give it everything I have on not only every play, but every practice, lift, and film session. Additionally, I believe I am versatile. I play tight end, h-back, fullback, and receiver. I can catch the ball and I can block intensely.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I will never get complacent in anything I do. I enjoy getting up early and exerting myself in a way that others don’t. I believe this is something that sets me apart in many things that I do.
Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
I think they should talk to my teammates from college. I believe they will tell you the story of the type of player and person I am. Furthermore, if you take a chance on me, I am willing to do anything you want me to do. I will play tight end. I will play fullback. I will play any special teams. I know I can help any team I’m on in any capacity they need me to.
