Name: Anthony Hardy
School: Miles College
Position: Outside Linebacker
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 225
Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?
I felt like leading the team in tackles would give us the best overall team success along with winning the conference championship and qualifying for the playoffs. Also, helping the younger guys understand the defense more, that way we’ll trust each other when times get rough.
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Long, Versatile, Fast.
Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?
I’ve been training around Birmingham just trying to stay focused on the main goal and getting closer with God because without him, none of this would be possible.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
Well first, I watch the O-Line because as a Linebacker, they have tendencies that helps us play fast. Such as if a Guard wants to pull, he might hug either the tackle’s or center’s hip a little more. The quicker you diagnose high Hat or low hat, you’ll find yourself around the ball a lot more. Then, I study how the Receivers release because an Outside Linebacker sometimes you play in space and for me, I like to put hands on the Slot Receiver which allows my safety to be able to make a clearer read.
Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?
What separates me is I’m long, fast, and versatile. I’m 6’3″ 225lbs, I can run and play in space. Transitioning from Safety, I still know coverages and where the holes are and being a Linebacker now, I know gap assignment and where the Defensive Lineman are supposed to be and by knowing that, I could make them right if they get reached etc.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I can bring stability, since arriving at Miles, I never missed a game. I can also bring versatility because I’m big enough to play inside and fast enough to play in space.
Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
I’m willing to come in and compete at the Highest level each and every day, competition brings out the best in me. Having a guy that can do multiple things could help in so many ways. I play special teams and have pride in doing so.
