Name: Marquez McCray
School: Monmouth University/Sacred Heart University
Position: QB
Height: 6-2
Weight: 220
Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
Being a mid-year transfer my goals included becoming a leader for Monmouth. First and foremost it was important to earn the respect of my teammates and coaches. From there on out it was to start and help my team win games. I was able to accomplish those goals and personally I had my best collegiate year statistically. I was also apart of having the leading receiver in the FCS which was a great accomplishment to be apart of.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My coaches and teammates would say I am a leader, on the field, in the weight room, and in the locker room. They would also say that I approach the game as a professional and am very intentional in the way I practice, watch film, and prepare for games.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
Personally I focus to the minute details like footwork, ball placement, and anticipation. THis past season being in a new offense early on it was precedent to get the footwork down for each drop wether it be n rpo, quick game, play action, or carrying out a fake. Secondly was anticipation, anticipating routes was a main focal point especially being with a new group of receivers, each receiver runs routes differently so learning there tendencies. Lastly was ball placement, with electric players putting the ball in certain spots can be the difference between a first down and a touchdown.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
At this level everybody is good in their own respective ways but what separates me from other good players is how quickly I learn and how coachable I am. I am highly receptive to training, open to constructive feedback, and I only have to be told things once to get them done.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
I am training at X3 in Nashville, Tennessee for my Pro Day Preparation. I am also working with Thomas Morris from QB Country for my Pro Day.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Off the field I am a model citizen and family oriented person. Off the field I like to give back to my community doing things such as Tim Tebow a night to shine, community service amongst other things as well. Also I am a locker room guy, I get along with everybody which is an attribute I am proud to say I have. On the field my knowledge for the game and insatiable appetite for winning and competition is something that will stand out to my teammates, coaches, and gms.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
I am a winner. Winning is a QB stat. In my football career I have continued to grow and improve every year both on and off the field. My production each year since high school has improved on the field and I am just scratching the surface of how successful I can be. In every situation I have earned and made the most of the opportunities presented to me.
