Name: Shazzon Mumphrey
College: New Haven
Position: Quarterback
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 222
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Shazzon: Relentless, Fearless, Intellegent.
Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?
Shazzon: Training so far has been impeccable, working with Frank Quido at BreakOut Athlete in North Branford, CT. He’s pushed me to reach levels I didn’t even know I could athletically. Also, while challenging me mentally everyday because your mind is just as important as the physical if not more. I’m more than ready for the regional combine and Pro Day.
Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?
Shazzon: Stephen Morris would be my closest comparison. I see a lot of similarities between us. As far as athletic ability, arm stregnth/accuracy, and poise.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
Shazzon: I look for a number of things in the film room. I’d start with personnel, knowing who is where and what they excel at, along with areas where they are not up to par. I like to see what the defense throws out in certain situations, down and distances, fronts, coverages, and blitzes. The most important thing is to be protected which may seem like it falls on the line, but it’s all on the QB to set them correctly so that the offense can be ran.
Q: What separates you from other players at your position?
Shazzon: My ability to learn fast and adjust separate me from a lot. I’ve learned 5 playbooks over my collegiate career. Having the intangibles to operate a system smoothly comes with lots and lots of studying and repetition, I’d say I’m pretty natural at it.
Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Shazzon: I’d say naturally being put in a leadership role or just people being comfortable around me. That’s what you want on the field, you want everyone in your huddle and on your sidelines to trust you to give it everything, trust you to make plays. The same goes for off the field, you want people to know that you got them, that if they need you, you’re there and you’re best effort will be given regardless what the matter is.
Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
Shazzon: I’d let them know that they are getting a guy who is going to come in and up the level of competition and the energy. Someone who is eager to grow as a student of the game and as much as I put in on the field, in the weight room and film room, I’m just as conscious off the field and making sure I have great character.
