Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
My goals for my final collegiate season was to show that I can learn and play in a pro styled defense with all of the checks and adjustments as well as show my coverage skills from the safety position. I feel like I showed both of those things well by the end of the season as I got more comfortable.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My old coaches and teammates would definitely say that I’m Swiss Army knife on the field and a gel guy of the team. You can put me at any spot on defense and I’m fighting to not only get the job done, but make plays beyond the required expectations. I’m the type of player you bring into organizations that need a culture change or new faces to push and help other guys buy in.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
When I study film over myself and the days practice / game, I’m checking to make sure my initial reads match the coverage as well as my foot work to get to my landmark on the field. When I watch my opponents I check for tendencies per play whether that be heavier leans by o-line man depending run/pass or a qb’s favorite receiving option on third downs. It’s important that I get a feel of some type of advantage going into the game vs. someone.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
What separates me from other db’s in this class is the actual versatility I have to go along with my size. I’ve played every position in the back end, made plays, and have been the deciding factor on occasion to win or lose games. This is at corner, safety, or nickel. Excel anywhere.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
For my off-season preparation. I prepped for my pro day out at WIN performance near Chicago. I was able to gain 12 pounds of muscle as well as run faster and jump further compared to when I got in there to start early January.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
One of the strengths I bring is a calm and reassuring confidence, in not only myself, but my team as a whole. I don’t necessarily have to be the Ra-Ra guy 24/7 but my guys still listen to my voice and look towards me in pivotal situations. On the field I’m very instinctive and can sniff out certain plays before they develop or become to explosive. When there’s an “oh sh*t” moment. I’m the guy there to cover it up and try to save it.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
My final pitch to the NFL and any other league scouting me is that I’m a 6’2, 4.46-53 running, db who can play anywhere on the field, quite literally. Whether that be outside corner, safety, slot corner, Blitzing off the edge to get sacks, or dropping down and being your hole player in a fire zone. I’m a guy every team needs as a utility player, and don’t forget special teams!
